Your answer to, “Why mom (or dad) do child predators hurt kids?”

by John Hall on February 21, 2010

A few years ago a girl asked me during a KID ESCAPE school program “Mr. Hall, Why would someone want to hurt me?” and my heart sank.

At that moment, I remember thinking to myself it is to bad I have to teach this stuff… and how I wished children never had to even think about child predators.

But I had to honor her question, so I simply answered this way:

“Actually, I’m not sure why… BUT there’s ONE thing I am sure of. It’s NEVER YOUR FAULT if someone tries to hurt you. Think about HOW you can escape, and then tell a trusted adult what happened.”

But saying this just ONCE won’t matter, reminding your children and students of this often eases their minds, so you they continually learn from you new ways to be safe from child predators without fear.
