Martial artists teaching “stranger safety”, be careful what you wish for…

Closing my eyes, I can still feel the concrete under my toes and cold sweat dripping from my forehead during my first Karate class in the basement of a hardware store back in 1972…

So when I got a call from an assistant instructor at a martial arts school in Washington a couple years ago, I understood exactly how she was feeling as she said to me:

“Our sensei spoke at a child abduction convocation at our elementary school and he scared the hect out of the kids. Now almost every parent has complained to the principal.”

Then she whispered, fighting back tears, “Now parents are pulling their children from our Little Tigers program and spreading the word to other parents not to enroll their kids.”

The martial arts studio flew me out and we, taught the Grip, Dip & Spin™ strategy to 847 students in one busy day, and now there are no hard feelings, and the sensei’s back in business.

There is truly “presentation magic” behind putting kids at ease and eliminating fear with teaching the Grip, Dip & Spin™ plan. I’ve spent 100’s of hours and 1,000’s of dollars sorting it all out.
